Password Feature is Going to Be Deprecated
At the end of May 2024 the password feature will be deprecated and end of October 2024 the password feature will be completely disabled and thus no longer able to use passwords for existing accounts for our customers. Current customers for the solution will automatically be migrated for the use of email OTC (one-time code through email notification) system.
Reasons why we remove password use from our systems
- 80% of data breaches are traced to weak or reused login credentials
- 61% of people use the same password for multiple online accounts
- 44% of users change their account passwords once per year
- The health sector is one of the major targets for threat actors
- Did you know that a cybersecurity attack occurs every 39 seconds?
Benefits for no longer using passwords and using OTP
- Reduced amount of steps during sign-up
- No fraudulent access from threat actors if user reused password from other online accounts
Nearly everyone has an email address, and most people already use email for security measures like forgotten passwords, usernames etc.. Why not go a step further? Email login works by sending time-limited code to users’ inboxes. Affirm, WhatsApp, Slack and Medium have an email login feature called “Email Login”, "Magic Link" or "OTP" that makes sign-on much more seamless.
As long as users have email addresses and phone numbers, passwordless sign-in is a viable option. After entering their e-mail address, the users receive an onscreen message containing a field to fill out a code. At the same time, an email notification is sent to this user with a fresh but limited time code.
